Until now this site explained the rules and the club. From today it also helps you play better, and it keeps score when you play at home. Everything below is free, works on a phone, and is in English and Serbian.
A strategy guide in seven parts
The strategy guide follows a deal from start to finish. It starts with bidding: how to count the tricks a hand will take, what the two talon cards are worth, and the rule that the first bidder must open with at least 5. When to call Mexico looks at the one bid that skips the talon, and The talon and trump covers what to discard and which suit to name.
Two articles are about the play itself: playing the contract for the caller, and defending as a Gangster for the two players who try to bring the bid down together — high through a friend, low through the caller, never leading away from an ace–queen, and reading what your partner throws away. Common mistakes collects the habits that cost beginners the most points.
Odds and statistics
Odds and statistics puts numbers on the questions players ask at every table: how many trumps you can expect in ten cards, how the trumps you are missing are likely to split between the other two players, and how often the talon brings what you need.
Glossary and FAQ
Mexico grew up in Balkan taverns, and every table has its own words for things. The glossary explains the terms — licitacija, talon, škart, adut, pad, gangsteri — with their English equivalents, and answers the questions that come up most often: how many people can play, how a bid of 10 differs from Mexico, and what happens when two players cross the target in the same deal.
A score sheet for games at home
Mexico started at kitchen and kafana tables, and plenty of games are still played with a real deck and a pencil. The score sheet does the pencil's job: after each deal, enter who called, the bid and everyone's tricks, and it adds up the totals with the same Easy or Normal scoring the club uses. It runs in the browser, so a phone on the table is enough.
Weekly results, every Monday
Every Monday at 00:05 Belgrade time the club pays pesos to the top ten of the week that has just ended. Those ten now also appear on the public weekly results page, with their points and the pesos they won, and the page keeps an archive of earlier weeks. Players are shown by first name and the first letter of their last name. If you would rather not appear, switch off Show me in public results in your profile settings in the game.
See you at the table — and if you find a mistake in a guide, or a question the FAQ does not answer, write to us through the contact page.
