How a Mexico round works
The same steps the interactive tutorial walks you through — written here so you can read them first.
1. Learn the table
Three players sit at the table. The status bar shows the game, the round, and whose turn it is. Your 10 cards are at the bottom; Ana and Marko sit left and right. The pot in the center holds the current bid and, later, the trump suit.
2. Bid for the contract
Players bid how many of the 10 tricks they think they can take.
- The opening bid is at least 5.
- Raise to 6, 7, 8, or 9, or say NEXT and fold.
- Mexico (10) commits to every trick. The talon stays down and the hand is played without trump.
3. Take the talon and discard
The auction winner (unless they bid Mexico) takes the two face-down talon cards, shows them, then discards two cards face down so the hand is 10 cards again.
4. Pick trump
Choose hearts, diamonds, clubs, or spades. Trump beats any other suit. Pick the suit where you are strongest — often the one with Ace, King, and length.
5. Play 10 tricks
The bid winner leads. Follow suit if you can. If you have none of the led suit, you must play a trump. Card rank: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7. The winner of each trick leads the next one.
6. Score the round
If the bidder took at least as many tricks as they bid, they score that many points. If they took fewer, they fall and lose the bid amount. The other two players — the Gangsters — score the tricks they took. First player past 51 points wins.
